About Us

Who is SOLS?

SOLS was formed in 2017 as a grassroots, community based nonprofit in response to the need for grief support and education in our South Okanagan community.

Our dedicated staff and volunteers are here to support others as they work through their healing journey.

We provide a variety of support programs from general to more specialized and diverse to fit the participants' needs, including individual and group support workshops (facilitated by trained counsellors), as well as access to educational materials for those dealing with loss and life transitions.

Who do we help?

SOLS supports those dealing with loss and life transitions including, but not limited to, individuals experiencing the loss of a loved one, caregivers, healthcare workers, teachers, workplace and agency - clients, employees, and volunteers.

Loss is not measurable and so by design SOLS aims to support the diverse range of experiences associated with loss that exist and arise within our community.

Why do we need
SOLS?

We are all impacted by the devastating effects of loss or will be in our future. For those dealing in the present with loss, it affects all aspects of their life and the lives of those around them.

A few years back, research led by the Penticton and District Hospice Society, Bereavement Resource Centre (PDHS-BRC), discovered the positive results for those who received support to assist them in their grief work. As the resources to provide ongoing support were no longer available at that time, SOLS formed a team of dedicated individuals, who have all been personally affected by loss and the need for support, to focus on how best to provide grief support to ALL those in need while reflecting the interest, input, and needs within our community.
